David Michalowski, who has been profoundly deaf since birth, was raised in Chicago, IL. In his early years, he competed in the prestigious United States Figure Skating National Championships from 1978 to 1982, which included the 1980 Winter Olympic Trials, and participated in four international competitions from 1980 to 1982, including the Winter World University Games twice. David was recognized as the first deaf figure skater ever to compete at national and international levels. Additionally, David and his late deaf sister Cheryl, along with three other deaf skaters, attended the 1975 Deaflympics at Lake Placid, NY, where they performed exhibitions.

 

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Studio Arts/Art History from New York University (NYU) and a Master of Fine Arts in Interactive Computer Graphic Design from Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), where he received the highest honor.

 

From 1990 to 1997, he worked at several high-technology design firms in multimedia design. He then started his own venture, DM Multimedia, in 1997. Additionally, he served as an adjunct faculty member for the Art and Computer Design Program at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID). For one year, he also worked as a part-time advisor for deaf students who were cross-registered in RIT's College of Imaging Arts and Sciences.

 

In 2001, he relocated with his family to Baltimore, MD to develop web-based training, exhibit booths, corporate identity, promotional materials, and websites for companies and agencies in the DC/Baltimore/NYC area.

 

He has been married to his college sweetheart, Sheryl Eisenberg-Michalowski, since 1986 and is the proud father of three children. He is also a saba, or grandfather, to two grandchildren.
